Minot State University
Minot State University
The city is home to Minot State University (MSU), the third largest academic institution in the state. The university offers the greatest number of majors in western North Dakota. MSU is a fully accredited university offering baccalaureate and graduate degrees, along with continuing education programs. The campus serves as the city's center for sports, cultural, and educational activities.

The university is comprised of four academic units:
  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Business
  • College of Education and Health Sciences
  • Graduate School

MSU divisions such as business, criminal justice, health, finance, nursing, and developmental disabilities have been identified as core competencies that give Minot a strategic advantage in business retention and expansion.

In Minot, high student achievement is accepted as the norm, not the exception. North Dakota students continue to rank first in national SAT scores and also perform well above average in ACT testing.

Minot's commitment to education is evident in a number of important statistics. The following are some examples of the positive educational atmosphere in Minot:
  • The public and private high school graduation rates are 92 percent and 100 percent respectively, far superior to the national graduation rate of 71 percent
  • North Dakota ranks 1st in the percentage of public school students who graduate with regular diplomas
  • North Dakota students continue to rank 1st in national SAT scores
  • The Minot schools offer a broad academic base with special emphasis on computer technology. There is one computer for every three students in the Minot schools, a ratio well above the national average of one computer for every 12 students.
